Alter Bridge is an American supergroup rock band that was formed in 2004 in Orlando, Florida by Mark Tremonti (lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brian Marshall (bass guitar), and Scott “Flip” Phillips (drums), all of whom were, at the time of Alter Bridge’s conception, former members of Creed, though that band later reunited. Myles Kennedy (lead vocals, rhythm and lead guitar), formerly of The Mayfield Four, joined the band shortly after their formation.

The band is named after an actual bridge that used to be located in Detroit near Tremonti’s home on Alter Road.
The bridge led to a bad part of town, and the neighborhood children, who saw the other side of the bridge as the “unknown”, were not allowed to cross it. Thus, according to Tremonti, the name of the band symbolizes going into the unknown and starting something new.

Alter Bridge has released three studio albums, one live DVD, and eight singles. Their debut album, One Day Remains, in August 2004, followed by their second album, Blackbird, in October 2007. Their third album, AB III.

AB III is the third studio album by the rock band Alter Bridge, released on October 8, 2010 in Australia and Germany.
It will be released in the rest of Europe on October 11, 2010 and in the United States on November 9, 2010.
It is a departure from the band’s first two albums for several reasons, the primary reason being that it is a loose concept album, a first for Alter Bridge, with themes of mostly struggles with faith and believing. It is more dynamic and progressive, musically, and it features lyrics that are much darker than the lyrics on the band’s previous albums.
AB III is also the first Alter Bridge album to be released through Roadrunner Records, making it the band’s third consecutive album to be released through a different label.
The album will be released through Roadrunner Records worldwide except North America, where it will be released through the band’s own label, Alter Bridge Recordings, with EMI handling distribution.

NEW YORK – Dan Fogelberg, the singer and songwriter whose hits “Leader of the Band” and “Same Old Lang Syne” helped define the soft-rock era, died Sunday at his home in Maine after battling prostate cancer. He was 56.

His death was announced Sunday in a statement by Anna Loynes of the Solters & Digney public relations agency, and was also posted on the singer’s Web site.

“Dan left us this morning at 6:00 a.m. He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side,” it read. “His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him.”

Fogelberg discovered he had advanced prostate cancer in 2004. In a statement then, he thanked fans for their support: “It is truly overwhelming and humbling to realize how many lives my music has touched so deeply all these years. … I thank you from the very depths of my heart.”

Fogelberg’s music was powerful in its simplicity. He didn’t rely on the volume of his voice to convey his emotions; instead, they came through in the soft, tender delivery and his poignant lyrics. Songs like “Same Old Lang Syne” — in which a man reminisces after meeting an old girlfriend by chance during the holidays — became classics not only because of his performance, but for the engaging storyline, as well.

Fogelberg’s heydey was in the 1970s and early 80s, when he scored several platinum and multiplatinum records fueled by such hits as “The Power of Gold” and “Leader of the Band,” a touching tribute he wrote to his father, a bandleader. Fogelberg put out his first album in 1972.

Fogelberg’s songs tended to have a weighty tone, reflecting on emotional issues in a serious way. But in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 1997, he said it did not represent his personality.

“That came from my singles in the early ’80s,” he reflects. “I think it probably really started on the radio. I’m not a dour person in the least. I’m actually kind of a happy person. Music doesn’t really reflect the whole person.

“One of my dearest friends is Jimmy Buffett. From his music, people have this perception that he’s up all the time, and, of course, he’s not. Jimmy has a serious side, too.”

Later in his career, he would write material that focused on the state of the environment, an issue close to his heart. Fogelberg’s last album was 2003’s “Full Circle,” his first album of original material in a decade. A year later he would receive his cancer diagnosis, forcing him to forgo a planned fall tour. I have been listening to AlterBridge since their existence, after Creed extinction. My favorite band. Their debut album “ONE DAY REMAINS” which was released in the fall of 2004. I can still remember almost all the song lyrics in the album which I was listening to since 2005. Here in the Paradise Philippines, although AlterBridge is not that as big hit as compared to Creed, radio hits most of their songs like “Broken Wings”, “Open Your Eyes” and “In Loving Memory” in the year 2005-2006 to rock FM radio stations mostly.

My favorite song on their first album I ranked first to last respectively: “Down to My Last”, “Open Your Eyes”, “Broken Wings”, “In Loving Memory”, “Watch Your Words”, Find the Real, One Day Remains, Burn It Down, Metalingus, Shed My Skin and The End is Here.

Another brand new album I will surely use to listen to. I have search the internet for the word blackbird and here’s what I found.

Or Common Blackbird (Turdus merula) is a European member of the thrush family Turdidae. It is common in woods and gardens over all of Europe and much of Asia south of the Arctic Circle.

Beatles has a song “Blackbird”, I do not heard it yet if it is similar to Alterbridge’s song “Blackbird” too.
