LOS ANGELES - Actress Megan Fox was named the world’s sexiest woman on Wednesday by an annual online poll, while the world’s most Googled woman, Britney Spears, barely scraped in at No. 100 after a shocker of a year.
Fox, 21, who starred in last year’s hit movie “Transformers,” grabbed the title from actress Jessica Alba, 26, topping online men’s magazine FHM Online’s reader poll of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World for 2008.
Alba dropped to No. 3, coming behind American actress and former model Jessica Biel but ahead of Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert who was ranked fourth after appearing in horror movie “Captivity” last year. U.S actress and singer Scarlett Johansson, 23, rounded out the top five.
“Megan Fox is the deserving winner of this year’s FHM title. She’s young, she’s hot, she’s a rising star and her sex appeal has definitely transformed this year’s list. She’s got a great future ahead of her,” said FHM Online U.S. Editor JR Futrell.
Fox debuted on the list at No. 68 in 2006 and was ranked No. 65 last year. But playing the lead female role in “Transformers,” a blockbuster $700 million hit at worldwide box offices, markedly raised her profile.
Also in the top 10 were Emmanuelle Chriqui, Hilary Duff, Tricia Helfer, Blake Lively and Kate Beckinsale. Read the rest of this entry »

Source: email newsletter from stage6.
I’m Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I’m writing this message today to inform you that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. Upload functionality has already been turned off, and you’ll be able to view and download videos until Thursday.
I know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many Stage6 users, and I’d like to take a few moments to explain the reasons behind our decision.
We created Stage6 with the mission of empowering content creators and viewers to discover a new kind of video experience. Stage6 began as an experiment, and we always knew there was a chance that it might not succeed.
In many ways, though, the service did succeed, beyond even our own initial expectations. Stage6 became very popular very quickly. We helped gain exposure for some talented filmmakers who brought great videos to the attention of an engaged community. We helped prove that it’s possible to distribute true high definition video on the Internet. And we helped broaden the Internet video experience by offering content that is compatible with DVD players, mobile devices and other products beyond the PC.

Only 28,924 out of 67,728 hopefuls passed December’s nursing licensure examinations, the Professional Regulation Commission announced on Thursday.
The number of passers represents 43.42 percent of the total examinees. It is lower than the 48 percent passing rate in the June 2007 licensure test.
Among the passers were second takers from the controversial June 2006 exam that was tainted by an alleged leakage of the questionnaire.
The top performing schools in the latest exam include Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Trinity University of Asia in Quezon City, Mindanao State University in Lanao del Sur, University of the East, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, and Palawan State University in Palawan.
The nursing licensure exam is a biannual event held every June and December in testing centers in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.
The complete list of the passers will be posted later Thursday and will appear in newspapers on Friday. - Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV

In a bid to remain independent, Yahoo plans to reject Microsoft Corp.’s unsolicited takeover offer, according to reports on the Wall Street Journal’s web site.Quoting sources familiar with the situation, the Journal reports that Yahoo’s board feels the offer of $31 per share “massively undervalues” the company. A letter spelling out the position is expected to be sent Monday. Yahoo also expressed concern that Microsoft’s offer does not account for risks to Yahoo should the deal be overturned by regulators.
The Journal source said the company would be unwilling to consider an offer below $40 per share, which would represent a $12 billion increase over Microsoft’s original $44.6 billion bid. It is unclear if Microsoft would be willing to increase its bid by such a significant amount.
A Yahoo representative said the company would not comment on rumor or speculation and reiterated that the board is evaluating all its strategic options.
The two companies have been in discussions about an alliance or merger for more than a year. Yahoo has long hoped to remain independent, believing it can reverse its fortunes and lift its flagging stock price.
In the summer of 2007, investors believed it was possible as well. Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang replaced Terry Semel as CEO and announced he would unveil a new strategic plan for the company within 100 days.
“There will be no sacred cows and we need to move quickly,” he said. But, after the 100 days – and then some – passed, investor patience wore thin, driving the stock lower.
In late January, the slumping Internet pioneer reported a fifth-consecutive quarter of lower profits and warned of “headwinds” for 2008. Yahoo’s battered stock fell to a four-year low, below the $20 per share level, and Microsoft pounced.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Increasingly worried over Internet providers’ behavior, a nonprofit has released software that helps determine whether online glitches are innocent hiccups or evidence of deliberate traffic tampering.
The San Francisco-based digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation hopes the program, released Wednesday, will help uncover “data discrimination” — efforts by Internet providers to disrupt some uses of their services — in addition to the cases reported separately by EFF, The Associated Press and other sources.
“People have all sorts of problems, and they don’t know whether to attribute that to some sort of misconfiguration, or deliberate behavior by the ISP,” said Seth Schoen, a staff technologist with EFF.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Online pornography hunters’ Internet adventures are already fraught with danger from malicious code many porn sites use to commandeer visitors’ machines or steal personal data.
Now comes a scheme some researchers say amounts to extortion: One site’s threat to disable visitors’ computers with relentless pop-up ads if they don’t pay for a subscription they were automatically signed up for after a free trial.
The threats, reported this week by researchers at security vendor McAfee Inc.’s Avert Labs, affect people who visit the Web site and download software to access a free three-day trial membership.
Visitors do get free access for three days, but the download includes code that then generates a stream of pop-up windows, when the user is online and offline, demanding payment of roughly $80 for 90 days’ worth of additional access.

A couple of months ago, news rolled over media, print ads and in the internet about Nokia product advisory. This has something to do with the defective BL-5C battery of Nokia manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Company of Japan in the period of December 2005 and November 2006. In line with the product advisory, Nokia will provide new BL-5C batteries as a replacement of the defective batteries in the said period of manufacture acquired by Nokia customers. Heard over news, Nokia will replace over one and a half million plus Nokia BL-5C defective batteries worldwide.
This battery replacement action made by Nokia was pursued due to complaints reported to them by some customers. The said customers have experienced blowing up their cell phone in the time of charging them. This lead to the investigation of Nokia and later finding out the defective BL-5C battery is the main cause.
In line with the product advisory, Nokia through their website, opened an electronic portal where customers can check their BL-5C batteries whether it is defective or not by providing the unique 26 alpha numeric key of the battery which is located at its back side.
Of curiosity, I checked my mobile phone I am using which is Nokia 3110 and found out that it uses a BL-5C battery. So I quickly followed the instruction stated and supplied the unique alphanumeric key of my battery. And the next message came out, “Your battery may be replaced…” and it asks again some personal information in order where the battery will be delivered. After three weeks I think of waiting, my new BL-5C was delivered through the DHL services. Here’s a photo of my new and my old BL-5C batteries.

Enclosed the battery package I received a letter from Nokia which is the following.
NOKIA
Subject: Nokia product advisory
Dear Nokia Customer,
Thank you for participating in the Nokia Product advisory, it is very much appreciated. We want to reassure you that our Customers’ safety is a top priority for Nokia. The warranty for this replacement product will be 6 months from receipt. Please retain this letter as a proof of warranty.
Please find enclosed a replacement battery which you can now start using. Within two weeks Nokia will provide instructions for the return process of the old battery in order to guarantee proper recycling and product safety.
You can start using your battery immediately.
Thank you for your kind cooperation and apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Nokia Corporation
And my reply to Nokia, two thumbs up Excellent Customer Support. You can check your BL-5C battery if it is defective HERE.
