Hotly and breathtakingly monitored by a lot especially those hopefuls who took the examination together with their relatives and friends. Speculations have been prevailing that the result would be released as early as first week of February causing some extreme excitement and anxieties coming from nursing students and parents as well. Such speculation has been clarified by the Board of Nursing Philippines was a hoax and prompted them to come out with an advisory confirming NO RESULT YET and telling the result will come out within February but within reasonable human capacities and capabilities by the PRC. Good luck to all and God Bless.

Fox, 21, who starred in last year’s hit movie “Transformers,” grabbed the title from actress Jessica Alba, 26, topping online men’s magazine FHM Online’s reader poll of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World for 2008.

Alba dropped to No. 3, coming behind American actress and former model Jessica Biel but ahead of Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert who was ranked fourth after appearing in horror movie “Captivity” last year. U.S actress and singer Scarlett Johansson, 23, rounded out the top five.

“Megan Fox is the deserving winner of this year’s FHM title. She’s young, she’s hot, she’s a rising star and her sex appeal has definitely transformed this year’s list. She’s got a great future ahead of her,” said FHM Online U.S. Editor JR Futrell.

Fox debuted on the list at No. 68 in 2006 and was ranked No. 65 last year. But playing the lead female role in “Transformers,” a blockbuster $700 million hit at worldwide box offices, markedly raised her profile.

Also in the top 10 were Emmanuelle Chriqui, Hilary Duff, Tricia Helfer, Blake Lively and Kate Beckinsale.

Newcomers to the list included Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice from British pop band the Spice Girls, who moved to Los Angeles with her husband, English soccer player David Beckham, last year. She made her debut at No. 99.

Spears, 26, whose career has been buried under an avalanche of personal and mental health problems, managed to make the list at No. 100, a steep decline from 2004 when she was voted the world’s sexiest woman.

FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll is now in its 14th year with nearly 9 million votes cast this year by FHM readers worldwide to choose the sexiest women in film, television, music, sports, and fashion.

This year’s list also included reality TV stars to reflect the genre’s increasing popularity with three girls from the “The Hills” making the list, including Heidi Montag at No. 44 and Audrina Patridge at No. 80 and Lauren Conrad at No. 95.

From “Dancing with the Stars,” actress Shannon Elizabeth returned to the list at No. 46 after being absent last year. She was joined by Cheryl Burke at No. 40 and Karina Smirnoff at No. 78, who made their debuts.

“It’s no surprise to us that so many reality stars made this year’s list,” said Futrell. ‘The Hills’ is one of the most popular shows on MTV, and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is the No. 2 reality show in America after ‘American Idol.’ We expect even more to be added next year.”

Source: email newsletter from stage6.

I’m Tom (aka Spinner), a Stage6 user and an employee of DivX, Inc., the company behind the service. I’m writing this message today to inform you that we plan to shut down Stage6 on February 28, 2008. Upload functionality has already been turned off, and you’ll be able to view and download videos until Thursday.

I know this news will come as a shock and disappointment to many Stage6 users, and I’d like to take a few moments to explain the reasons behind our decision.

We created Stage6 with the mission of empowering content creators and viewers to discover a new kind of video experience. Stage6 began as an experiment, and we always knew there was a chance that it might not succeed.

In many ways, though, the service did succeed, beyond even our own initial expectations. Stage6 became very popular very quickly. We helped gain exposure for some talented filmmakers who brought great videos to the attention of an engaged community. We helped prove that it’s possible to distribute true high definition video on the Internet. And we helped broaden the Internet video experience by offering content that is compatible with DVD players, mobile devices and other products beyond the PC.

So why are we shutting the service down? Well, the short answer is that the continued operation of Stage6 is a very expensive enterprise that requires an enormous amount of attention and resources that we are not in a position to continue to provide. There are a lot of other details involved, but at the end of the day it’s really as simple as that.

Now, why didn’t we think of that before we decided to create Stage6 in the first place, you may ask? That’s a good question. When we first created Stage6, there was a clear need for a service that would offer a true high-quality video experience online because other video destinations on the Internet simply weren’t providing that to users. A gap existed, and Stage6 arrived to fill it.

As Stage6 grew quickly and dramatically (accompanied by an explosion of other sites delivering high-quality video), it became clear that operating the service as a part of the larger DivX business no longer made sense. We couldn’t continue to run Stage6 and focus on our broader strategy to make it possible for anyone to enjoy high-quality video on any device. So, in July of last year we announced that we were kicking off an effort to explore strategic alternatives for Stage6, which is a fancy way of saying we decided we would either have to sell it, spin it out into a private company or shut it down.

I won’t (and can’t, really) go into too much detail on those first two options other than to say that we tried really hard to find a way to keep Stage6 alive, either as its own private entity or by selling it to another company. Ultimately neither of those two scenarios was possible, and we made the hard decision to turn the lights off and cease operation of the service.

So that’s where we are today. After February 28, Stage6 will cease to exist as an online destination. But the larger DivX universe will continue to thrive. Every day new DivX Certified devices arrive on the market making it easy to move video beyond the PC. Products powered by DivX Connected, our new initiative that lets users stream video, photos, music and Internet services from the PC to the TV, are hitting retail outlets. We remain committed to empowering content creators to deliver high-quality video to a wide audience, and we’ll continue to offer services that will make it easy to find videos online in the DivX format.

It’s been a wild ride, and none of it would have been possible without the support of our users. Thank you for making Stage6 everything that it was.

–Tom

HERE is the RESULT…

Only 28,924 out of 67,728 hopefuls passed December’s nursing licensure examinations, the Professional Regulation Commission announced on Thursday.

The number of passers represents 43.42 percent of the total examinees. It is lower than the 48 percent passing rate in the June 2007 licensure test.

Among the passers were second takers from the controversial June 2006 exam that was tainted by an alleged leakage of the questionnaire.

The top performing schools in the latest exam include Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Trinity University of Asia in Quezon City, Mindanao State University in Lanao del Sur, University of the East, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, and Palawan State University in Palawan.

The nursing licensure exam is a biannual event held every June and December in testing centers in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

The complete list of the passers will be posted later Thursday and will appear in newspapers on Friday. – Mark Merueñas, GMANews.TV

In a bid to remain independent, Yahoo plans to reject Microsoft Corp.’s unsolicited takeover offer, according to reports on the Wall Street Journal’s web site.Quoting sources familiar with the situation, the Journal reports that Yahoo’s board feels the offer of $31 per share “massively undervalues” the company. A letter spelling out the position is expected to be sent Monday. Yahoo also expressed concern that Microsoft’s offer does not account for risks to Yahoo should the deal be overturned by regulators.

The Journal source said the company would be unwilling to consider an offer below $40 per share, which would represent a $12 billion increase over Microsoft’s original $44.6 billion bid. It is unclear if Microsoft would be willing to increase its bid by such a significant amount.

A Yahoo representative said the company would not comment on rumor or speculation and reiterated that the board is evaluating all its strategic options.

The two companies have been in discussions about an alliance or merger for more than a year. Yahoo has long hoped to remain independent, believing it can reverse its fortunes and lift its flagging stock price.

In the summer of 2007, investors believed it was possible as well. Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang replaced Terry Semel as CEO and announced he would unveil a new strategic plan for the company within 100 days.

“There will be no sacred cows and we need to move quickly,” he said. But, after the 100 days – and then some – passed, investor patience wore thin, driving the stock lower.

In late January, the slumping Internet pioneer reported a fifth-consecutive quarter of lower profits and warned of “headwinds” for 2008. Yahoo’s battered stock fell to a four-year low, below the $20 per share level, and Microsoft pounced.

Yahoo shares are currently 51 percent above their pre-bid value. In contrast, Microsoft shares have dropped about 13 percent since the bid was announced, far worse than the Standard & Poor’s 500’s loss of 4 percent.

The second-guessing about Microsoft’s unsolicited bid is typical for large acquisitions. Investors are debating whether the benefits outweigh the potential management distractions, sagging employee morale and other headaches that can arise after the deal is done.

Should Microsoft decide to increase its offer, it could still turn up the pressure by drawing upon its $21 billion in cash and lofty market value of $265 billion to raise the bid.

Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said the software company may issue some debt to finance the cash portion of its 50-50 stock and cash offer for Yahoo, instead of drawing down its entire $21 billion cash pile.

“It’s likely we’re actually going to borrow for the first time,” said Liddell in an annual strategy meeting with analysts before Yahoo’s apparent decision. “It’s going to be a mixture of the cash we have on hand plus debt.”

Since Microsoft’s initial bid, there has been a significant amount of discussion about antitrust concerns. Google’s chief legal officer David Drummond, writing on the company’s blog, said “Microsoft’s hostile bid for Yahoo raises troubling questions. This is about more than simply a financial transaction, one company taking over another. It’s about preserving the underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.”

Microsoft made similar comments when Google CEO Eric Schmidt reached out to Yahoo about a potential partnership following the bid.
While some investors held out hope for a white knight bidder, none surfaced after Microsoft’s initial bid. News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch ruled out a bid during a Feb. 4 conference call. Other potential suitors, such as Comcast and AT&T, opted against going against Microsoft’s deep pockets, as well.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Increasingly worried over Internet providers’ behavior, a nonprofit has released software that helps determine whether online glitches are innocent hiccups or evidence of deliberate traffic tampering.

The San Francisco-based digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation hopes the program, released Wednesday, will help uncover “data discrimination” — efforts by Internet providers to disrupt some uses of their services — in addition to the cases reported separately by EFF, The Associated Press and other sources.

“People have all sorts of problems, and they don’t know whether to attribute that to some sort of misconfiguration, or deliberate behavior by the ISP,” said Seth Schoen, a staff technologist with EFF.

The new software compares lists of data packets sent and received by two different computers and looks for discrepancies between what one sent and the other actually received. Previously, the process had to be done manually.

Schoen compared the software to a spelling checker.

“If you really had no idea what you were looking for, this could save dozens of hours,” he said.

Increasingly people are contacting the EFF worried that their online activity has been disrupted by their Internet service provider, he said. The goal of the EFF’s program is to “help consumers get more clarity about what the ISPs are doing.”

An Associated Press investigation, published last month, confirmed in nationwide tests that Comcast Corp., the No. 2 U.S. Internet provider, interfered with attempts by some subscribers to it’s high-speed service to share files online. EFF, which had been running its own tests, later said its findings were consistent with the AP’s results.

The tests revealed that a PC would see messages from Comcast that were invisible to the user that told it to stop communicating, which would lead it to cancel a download or upload.

The AP’s tests helped revive the debate over so-called “‘Net Neutrality,” how to treat all types of Internet traffic equally.

Comcast says it does not block access to any applications but does use sophisticated technologies to keep Internet connections running smoothly.

Some online activities, like peer-to-peer file-sharing, swallow massive amounts of bandwidth and can slow Internet connections for other subscribers. - AP

Now comes a scheme some researchers say amounts to extortion: One site’s threat to disable visitors’ computers with relentless pop-up ads if they don’t pay for a subscription they were automatically signed up for after a free trial.

The threats, reported this week by researchers at security vendor McAfee Inc.’s Avert Labs, affect people who visit the Web site and download software to access a free three-day trial membership.

Visitors do get free access for three days, but the download includes code that then generates a stream of pop-up windows, when the user is online and offline, demanding payment of roughly $80 for 90 days’ worth of additional access.

The windows stay open up to 10 minutes and appear once a day. They appear on top of any open windows and restore to their original size if shrunk or moved, making them impossible to ignore. They also reappear if the computer is rebooted.

The site actually warns visitors they will be billed as full members — and lose full use of their computers if they don’t — unless they cancel the subscription within the trial period. But the warning appears in the full terms and conditions statement, which downloaders aren’t required to read.

Once the fees are paid, the software can be removed with a special file.

“What it appears they are doing is, in my humble opinion, a form of extortion based on the (usually correct) assumption that a person’s computer will be key to many other activities in their daily life,” McAfee researcher Seth Purdy wrote on the Avert Labs blog. - AP

Managing your Google reputation is a challenge that every small business owner should embrace as more potential customers look to search engines to research companies and products.

Andy Beal from Marketing Pilgrim, a well know online marketing expert, has put together a great list of ways to manage your personal Google reputation, which applies equally to businesses and products.

Below is a business orientated version of his list, but for the original version, pop over to his Gooruze article (Own Your Google Reputation with these Ten Suggestions).

Get your own web site and domain name
Chances are if you’re reading this, you’ve already got a website, but if you haven’t yet, this is the first step in filling one of those top 10 Google listings.

Start a company or product blog
We’ve promoted the virtues of blogging a million times over, and there is no easier way to get your branding in the rankings for your company and product searches than by producing blog content.

Add a sub-domain to your website
For established websites, a way of filling another spot in the top 10 is by creating a sub-domain for particular parts of your website. Sub domains look like http://subdomain.yourwebsite.com and Google will often see the sub-domain as its own listing.

Create social networking profiles
With the immense growth in social networks, search engines like Google have started indexing them more frequently (assuming they’re open for spidering). By creating a profile with details about your brand and content, there’s a good chance it’ll fill one of the top 10 results.

Develop your own social network
While this can be a little more involved, new free community services allow you to create a social network around your brand. This not only helps to create search friendly content around your brand, but also provides a new way for customers to engage with your business.

Create a business profile
There are several profession networks around (www.linkedin.com or www.gooruze.com) where you can create specialist profiles about yourself and your businesses. By building up your network, you open your business up to increased positive content and yet another way to fill one of Google’s listings.

Create media around your business
It’s easier than ever to share photos, video and audio than ever before. With a range of communities aimed at sharing such media, create some buzz about your business through images and movies, which can help take another one of those top 10 listings.

Claim your identity
People search is growing rapidly, and there are a growing number of personal profile management tools and services available. Just like social network profiles, many allow you to outline and link to your businesses and products… another way to protect a top search listing for your company.

Create your own Wiki
Andy highlights that the once coveted Wikipedia listings which commands Google’s top spots are now harder than ever to get and providing less value. A way to harness the ranking power of wiki’s is to create your own, with you controlling the content.

Use Google’s Free Tools
Google is constantly developing new tools and services which may help your business get found in its search results. While Andy suggests creating a Google webpage, recent speculation about the impact of Google Notebook and Google Base suggest many of its tools might help to fill yet another important top 10 listing for your brand or products.

Getting top 10 rankings for common search terms and keywords can be very challenging, but it’s often easier to own the top 10 Google listings around your company, brand or product names – especially if they are relatively unique. With this simple list, there’s no excuse for not claiming them back.
